FN Five-Seven

To be able to choose the right FN 5.7 holster, you need to be aware of the measurements of the pistol as well as how you plan to use it. From there we can determine which types would be appropriate for the FN Five-Seven.

Weapon Size and Weight:

The FN 5.7 has the following measurements:

  • Length: 8.2″
  • Barrel Length: 4.8″
  • Width: 1.4″
  • Height: 5.4″
  • Weight: 1.3 lb (empty)

As you can see from the measurements of the pistol, the FN 5.7 is a medium sized handgun. This means most types should be able to work with this weapon (although probably not an ankle type!). Most folks would likely want to carry this gun concealed, so IWBs will probably feature a lot for this gun.

FIVE FN 5.7 HOLSTER OPTIONS REVIEWED

If you want to read a more detailed reviewfor the FN 5.7, you can check out the detailed overview that we have done below.

BLACKHAWK! Serpa CQC Carbon Fiber Appliqué Finish Concealment

Click on image to go to Amazon

This is a hard-shell choice made from Carbon Fiber. Not only does the Carbon Fiber make for a sturdy type, but it makes cleaning and maintaining it a lot easier as you can just wash it with a bit of mild soap and water. If you want your gun securely holstered, then this option might be one of the best FN5.7 holster options for you as it has a lock/release system to keep your gun stored.

To keep your gun even more securely holstered, you can play around with the adjustable retention screw. The retention system is designed to make drawing your weapon quick and easy (there is no thumb-break or middle-finger release to hamper you).

Carry on this product is made easy and convenient with the belt loop and paddle platforms, so you can adjust and carry your weapon that is comfortable for you.

If you need to carry your gun daily and need to be able to draw your weapon quickly, while also being assured that the gun is securely holstered when it needs to be, then this option is a serious contender to be your FN 5.7 holster option. It is a little on the expensive side, so probably not the best option if you just want  to store your weapon in for occasional use.

FN 5.7 Leather Gun LT RH IWB Black

Click on image to go to Amazon

This product from Pro Carry is a no frills leather type for inside the waistband (IWB) carry. It is made in America from double stitched leather (so you know it is a solid product!). At its selling price (at the time this article was written), this is an entry level type that will do the basics you need from a FN 5.7 holster.

It is kept in place using the metal belt clip, however some users have noted that the belt clip is not the greatest (very often the belt clip is a problem area on holsters). However overall the it is well constructed and sturdy. Unfortunately for lefties, this choice is specifically designed for right-hand use.

Different to the BlackHawk we discussed above, this product is not really intended for everyday use but rather for occasional carry (for example if you are heading down to the gun range for some practise).

FN Five-Seven MK2 IWB Hybrid with Adjustable Retention and Comfort Curve, SHTF Gear ACE-1 Gen 2

Click on image to go to Amazon

This top-of-the-range IWB FN 5.7 holster is made from a hybrid of quality leather and Kydex, a type of moldable plastic. It boasts the ‘Comfort Curve’ which is made from Kydex and creates a curve in the back that is molded by each user, ensuring a very specific fit. This makes this an incredibly comfortable option, whilst also bringing the grip close to the body to help with concealment.

What’s more, this FN 5.7 holster offers adjustable retention, adjustable carry height and cant to suit every user, durable Kevlar stitching, beveled edges, and a sweat guard cut, so you get a full shooting grip on your pistol when it is holstered. This means you are ready for action, even in unpredictable situations.

Despite the leather being quite thick, it molds to your sides so well, along with the Kydex comfort curve, that it’s very difficult for anyone to know that you are carrying a weapon. Comfort is also unsurpassed.

Galco Fletch High Ride Belt for FN Five-Seven USG

Click on image to go to Amazon

The Galco Fletch High Ride Belt product is by far one of the more expensive FN 5.7 holster options on our list. However you can see why when you look at it. Made from double stitched saddle leather, it is hand molded to fir the FN 5.7 specifically. It has a two-piece construction that is contoured to make for a comfortable fit on your hip.

Your weapon is kept securely in place thanks to the reinforced thumb-break, and has a trigger guard in place for safety. This does mean however that with this choice you might not be able to draw your weapon as fast as some of the others that we have looked at, however if you only carry as a civilian then that probably should not be a problem.

Keep in mind that with leather types like this, you will need to break it in a bit to get the fit to your gun just right.

Elite Survival Tac-Light Thigh for Beretta 92/96, FN Five Seven with tac lights

Click on image to go to Amazon

If you are looking for something a bit more "tacti-cool", then you might like this FN 5.7 holster option. It is made from heavy duty Nylon for durability and easy maintenance, and is designed to be carried on your thigh. It will accommodate tactical flashlight attachments and an additional mag.

The thigh straps have quick release buckles and non-slip backing. You can get this product in either a left-hand or right-hand version.

OUR TOP FN 5.7 HOLSTER CHOICE

Now that we looked at each of the FN 5.7 holster options individually, we can compare them to each other to try and figure out which one is the best option.

The BLACKHAWK! Serpa CQC Carbon Fiber Appliqué Finish Concealment option is made from modern carbon fiber materials that are specifically designed for secure holstering of your weapon while also allowing for quick and easy drawing of your weapon. It is not a cheap one, so is a holstered for serious users.

The leather type from Pro Carry is a well made product that is sold at an entry level price. The are some concerns about the metal belt clip, however this one is not intended for everyday use but rather for occasional carry.

The SHTF Gear ACE-1 Gen 2 provides unsurpassed comfort and concealment, and made from top quality leather and Kydex, cant and height is also adjustable to suit each and every user, draw and retention is unbeatable, and it fits the FN 5.7 like a glove. It is approximately a similar price to the BlackHawk Serpa, however the we believe the SHTF Gear ACE-1 Gen 2 will give a more comfortable carry over a long period of wearing it.

The Galco Fletch High Ride Belt  is very expensive. However that is because it is a premium quality made from leather and hand molded to fit the FN 5.7. The thumb-break will keep your weapon securely holstered, but if you are in law enforcement or military you might want to rather look at the BlackHawk or the SHTF Gear ACE-1 Gen 2.

If you want to go the tactical route and look the part, you will probably like the Elite Survival Tac-Light Thigh. It allows for a tactical flashlight attachment and an extra mag. Being made from heavy duty Nylon, this is a good choice if you want a work-horse type product that can take a bit of punishment and be cleaned with a bit of soap and water when needed.

Which FN 5.7 holster would we choose?

Well, no one here will be surprised to hear that we award first place to the IWB Hybrid Holster! The most expensive product on the list, but we doubt you would find another option that can beat this. It will also last the test of time, and should fit every user out there.

Ruger GP100

Ruger GP100 holster

When choosing a holster for your GP100, there are a few key considerations you need to keep in mind in order to choose the right one for you. Firearms can be different when it comes to functionality, weight and size.

Weapon Size and Weight:

The Ruger GP100 has the following measurements:

  • Length: 8.5″/9.5"/11.5"
  • Barrel Length: 3″/4.2"/6"
  • Weight: 36 oz to 45 oz

From the above dimensions, you can see that the Ruger GP100 comes in various sizes. As such the particular variant of the GP100 that you use will determine the type of holster that you pick.

OUR REVIEW OF 5 Ruger GP100 HOLSTER OPTIONS

Below we look at 5 holsters that fit the Ruger GP100 that are available on Amazon. We look at the materials that they are made from, the comfort of how it is worn, how it fits the Ruger GP100, and how easy it is to draw your weapon from them.

Fobus-Standard-Holster-Paddle-RUGP

Click on image to go to Amazon

If you're looking for something sturdy and no frills, this Fobus model certainly fits the bill. Like other holsters produced under the Fobus brand, this one needs no oiling to maintain it. A standard cleaning with water and mild soap fits the bill. This "wash and wear" approach also works well for extensive out of doors wearing.

The Fobus holds up well with minimal maintenance even when exposed to severe elements. Sturdy construction is part of this product's overall design as well. It has a steel rivet attachment system, which means that firearms stay where they're wanted once they've been holstered. Designed for right hand use, this Fobus attaches with a rubberized paddle, and has a low profile draw.

The Fobus is intended for casual wearing and use, as at a firing range, and is not a "working" holster. Given the weight of the GP100, this product is a good Ruger GP100 holster choice and is a good financial find as well. This Fobus fits the Ruger GP100 4 inch.

Bianchi-Thumbsnap-Holster-Ruger-GP100

Click on image to go to Amazon

This sleek, contoured Bianchi is a good choice for several other Ruger models and similar firearm types in addition to being an excellent choice for a Ruger GP100. This model is produced by Bianchi, an Italian company with a reputation for producing superior sporting goods.

It rides high and close on the body, and is hand boned for a more comfortable wear. In addition to the close fit, it offers users a internal thumb snap that helps to create further firearm retention. The Bianchi offers both left and right hand shooter options, both retailing at around fifty dollars. The Bianchi is a good choice for quick draw situations, making it a good tactical choice.

Maintenance in the form of oiling, etc. is not recommended for this holster, although it may need some stretching before use to allow for rapid firearm removal.

Gould-Goodrich-803-94-Chestnut-Security

Click on image to go to Amazon

This pancake style model works very well as a Ruger GP100 holster, and works well for a number of other models within the Ruger series, specifically those with a 4" barrel. Maintenance requirements are minor. Its initial fit can be snug, but users have gotten around this by using "ironing" techniques such as placing it under weights, or steaming it. Users should be warned that this model's leather is not especially supple, and other stretching techniques like conditioning or paper stuffing aren't especially effective with it.

This particular model comes with several belt slots, meaning that it can be worn at different angles. Overall fit is snug and close to the body, making this a good choice for concealed wear, even with larger handguns, like the Ruger. This model retails at around fifty dollars, and is one of the more popular options available.

Bianchi-Cyclone-Holster-Python-Right

Click on image to go to Amazon

Bianchi designed this product for use as a Ruger GP100 holster, but it can certainly be used with similar handguns, such as the Colt Python. Like other Bianchi products, this a sleekly designed, contoured product, that works well for close body wearing and quick drawing, making it another good tactical option.

It also is high riding and has a quick snap thumb release, in addition to a couple of belt wearing options that give users of this Bianchi the option of wearing it on the right hip, or on the left, which enables cross drawing. This particular model is limited to right hand use, although Bianchi produces a left hand version of this model as well. Like other Bianchi products, this model retails at around fifty dollars.

It is best used indoors or out of doors under limited circumstances. Its lack of a safety strap for a handgun's rear sight means that this model is probably best not used in more rugged terrains for safety reasons.

Safariland-Pancake-Holster-Black-Right

Click on image to go to Amazon

This pancake style product makes not only a good "no frills" option, but is effective for similar handgun models produced by Colt and Smith & Wesson. This model's leather is of good quality, but is stiff, and this can affect the cant of holstered firearms.

While the overall quality of this product is good, it is not especially comfortable for all-day wearing. It is low profile in design and fits the body well, making it a good choice for concealed wear. It also distributes weight nicely, making it a good choice for large, heavy handguns like the Ruger. This particular model is limited to right hand use, and generally retails for around forty dollars.

OUR TOP Ruger GP100 HOLSTER CHOICE

When considering any of these products as a Ruger GP100 holster, all of them have their pros and cons. So let's take a look at each product individually. The Fobus-Standard-Holster-Paddle-RUGP holster gets high marks for its construction, its virtually nil maintenance needs, and its very affordable price. It should be noted that some users have had issues with this model's less than snug fit, although adjustments can be made to accommodate this. However, this Fobus has little practical use outside of transporting a handgun from point A to point B, or using it in controlled environments, such as target shooting. This is not the best choice for you if you want to carry concealed. Users are limited to a right hand product with this model. Because the design of the Fobus does not allow for quick drawing, it also does not make a practical "working" holster, either for demonstration or tactical purposes.

The Italian sporting goods company Bianchi offers consumers a couple of options here, the Bianchi-Thumbsnap-Holster-Ruger-GP100 and the Bianchi-Cyclone-Holster-Python-Right holsters. The contoured fit of both of these products makes for a product that works well for concealed carry and tactical use. Both of these products offer right and left hand options at comparable prices. It should be noted that some safety concerns have been raised concerning the lack of a safety strap for the Bianchi Cyclone's rear sight. Because of this, it shouldn't be worn in certain outdoor situations such as heavy brush, etc. Some users report initial stiffness in removing and replacing handguns in the holster, but this can easily be mitigated. The biggest deterrent towards the two Bianchi products seems to be in their prices. However, given the quality of the leather used, the lack of needed maintenance, and the products' overall durability, (if unabused, Bianchi holsters last for decades) these tend to pay for themselves, if users plan to hang onto them for awhile.

If users are looking for a "no-frills" but sturdy and comfortable option, then the Gould-Goodrich-803-94-Chestnut-Security holster might be for them. There are prettier alternatives out there, but this one is not lacking in construction quality. Its biggest issues seem to deal with wear. Gould/Goodrich uses a stiffer type of leather than with other holster types described here. Users will find it more difficult to stretch, although "steaming" it for those who have the time seems to get results. It fits well against the body, and is comfortable for extended concealed wear. Also on the plus side, handguns have more angle riding options with it than the others described here. This is one of the more expensive products described here made by an American company, but it seems to have little impact on this model's popularity.

The Safariland-Pancake-Holster-Black-Right is the least expensive "all purpose" model described here, and it's also the least comfortable to wear, digging into the skin if worn for extended periods. Like the Gould described here, its stiffer leather makes for more difficult stretching, and can limit the gun's cant when worn. On the other hand, this is a durable, close fitting, and well balanced, making it useful for limited tactical use.

Which holster would you choose for your Ruger GP100?

When considering factors ranging from ease and range of use, to safety, to comfort, we believe that the winner for best Ruger GP100 holster is the Bianchi-Thumbsnap-Holster-Ruger-GP100. It is durable, well-made and can be used comfortably and safely in a variety of situations. If used and cared for properly, it is not just a holster, but an heirloom that can be enjoyed by generations of gun enthusiasts.

Walther PK380 Holster – Top Picks For the PK380!

Walther PK380

Walther PK380 holster

To help you choose the right Walther PK380 holster , we first look at the measurements of the gun to be able to know what types might be best suited for the PK380.

Weapon Size and Weight:

The Walther PK380 has the following measurements:

  • Length: 6.5″
  • Barrel Length: 3.66″
  • Width: 1.20″
  • Height: 5.20″
  • Weight: 22.4 oz

The Walther PK380 is a small/medium handgun, which makes it a popular choice for folks who want to carry concealed. While the typical options of IWB and OWB  will be available for this gun, you probably should not bother looking for an ankle choice for this pistol.

Detailed REVIEW OF 5 Walther PK380 HOLSTER Choices

Now that we know which types might be best suited for the Walther PK380 holster, let us take a good look at some options that might be great choices to consider.

Fobus Standard

Click on image to go to Amazon

This basic product by Fobus accommodates several types of handguns, including various Glock models. Why it makes a nice option has to do with the amount of maintenance that this selection requires, which is to say none. This Fobus pick does not breathe or sweat, and does not require oiling. Simple cleaning with basic soap and water will suffice, and it wears well in extreme elements, which includes temperature and weather wear.

Fobus offers a "no questions asked" lifetime warranty with this particular product, which is manufactured using a steel reinforced rivet attachment system. This model's attachment comes only in the form of a rubberized paddle. While in theory it is possible for a thief to "break off" and steal this gun from an unwary user, in reality, this isn't an issue for a diligent owner, and it takes in fact some deliberate effort to draw a gun from it.

The Fobus is reasonably priced at under thirty dollars and is good for casual use, such as range visits. One potential drawback is that it is only made for right handed users. While this particular Fobus seems to be more popular among Glock users, it's inexpensive and uncomplicated, making it a perfectly acceptable Walter PK380 holster.

Desantis-Softuck-Glock-PK380-Right type

Click on image to go to Amazon

DsSantis Gunhide manufactures this under the pants type that works for both various Glock models, and for use as a Walther PK380 holster. This is a straightforward, no frills model that is currently produced exclusively for right handed users.

This product clips onto the pants below the belt. Once the gun is holstered, the firearm stays in place until it is removed, and users have not experienced issues with firearms "riding" up. Maintenance is minimal, and this one holds up over time. However, there have been multiple complaints concerning the sturdiness of this fastening clip and the extended "break-in" period that this product seems to require.

Some retailers such as Amazon also require extra processing time for this particular model.

Walther PK380 Light Weight Black Right Hand Inside The Waistband Concealed Carry Gun selection

Click on image to go to Amazon

Made specifically for use as a Walther PK380 holster, this sharp looking item is produced by The Holster Store and features sturdy, high quality leather work. For right handed use only, this  is comfortable to wear, but users should be aware that this  is highly visible with business attire.

Its snug leather fit has also caused some delays in removing firearms. Price is about the same as for the Fobus Standard, and users in fact often buy these two holsters in conjunction with each other.

Walther PK380 IWB Hybrid with Adjustable Retention and Comfort Curve, SHTF Gear ACE-1 Gen 2

Click on image to go to Amazon

Manufactured by SHFT Gear, this specific Walther PK380 holster is custom made to order for each user's firearm. Other specific features include its cant, ride height, and adjustable retention. This product comes with SHFT Gear's patented "Custom Curve" technology which makes for a more comfortable wear.

This option retails at around sixty dollars, making it more expensive, but given its features and quality, this is not surprising. This is a durable, nicely balanced option for extended and more active wear.

FoxX-Holsters-Walther-Hybrid-Holster

Click on image to go to Amazon

This hybrid by FoxX Holsters has proven to be a popular choice for concealed wear at hip level. Similarities to the IWB type include attention ride and cant. While there is a longer breaking- in period, it is not uncomfortable to wear, and most users make the adjustment to it within a few days of wearing.

For purposes of quick access to the firearm, this product best serves concealed weapon wear by being worn on the hip. Materials are of a good quality, such as premium leather and Kydex, and the spring belt clips are made of black steel. The pricing is very affordable, generally retailing at around forty dollars.

Our Top Walther PK380 Holster Choice

So in shopping for a Walther PK380 holster, what are the pros and cons of each of these products? In making a selection among these products, a shopper is advised to consider what he or she plans to use the holstered firearm for.

The Fobus Standard option, for example, is a sturdy, no frills item that is durable and easy to care for. It is also limited in its use potential, and is probably best suited for casual range and target use. It is attractively priced, and this plus its minimal care needs make it perhaps best suited to a first time gun carrier, or one who wants separate holsters for separate needs.

While it is similar in appearance, function, and cost to the Fobus, the DeSantis Softuck has had repeated complaints from users about the difficulty of breaking this particular carry option in, and the quality of some of its materials. Its belt clip seems especially prone to breaking.

Another "under the pants" type, the Walther Waistband Concealed Carry option has advantages in that it is designed specifically for Walther models and is comfortable to wear. However, unless the user is dressed in bulky casual wear, the bulge this creates with many types of clothing defeats the purpose of concealed wear.

And SHFT Gear and FoxX Holsters produce a fairly similar hybrid choice, with the biggest differences being in FoxX's lower price, and more limited versatility in how the it can be effectively worn in concealed carry situations.

Which option would you choose for your Walther PK380 holster?

So what is the best Walther PK380 holster out there? Ultimately it boils down to what the user wants to use it for, and how much money they want to expend.

For general, non-concealed carry, the Fobus Standard is a good, reliable option with no issues that requires little maintenance. For concealed carry use, while the FoxX selection is certainly a good overall product, it does require an adjustment period of wearing, and it can be difficult to access its accompanying firearm unless worn at waist level.

Therefore, users are advised to pony up that extra twenty nine dollars if looking for a quality concealed carry option, and purchase the adjustable retention holster by SHFT Gear.

SIG P232 Holster – 5 Great Holsters For The P232!

SIG P232

sig p232 holster

When looking to buy a SIG P232 holster, we need to remember that guns differ in terms functionality, weight and size. These factors are key considerations when choosing the right one for your needs. So let us take a closer look at the SIG P232 as a pistol.

Weapon Size and Weight:

The SIG P232 has the following measurements:

  • Length: 6.60"
  • Barrel Length: 3.60"
  • Width: 1.20"
  • Height: 4.70"
  • Weight: 18.5oz

It is clear that the SIG P232 is on the smaller side, which makes it a popular choice for concealed carry. This opens up possibilities such as ankle or perhaps pocket holsters. Of course, the usual IWB and OWBs should also be relevant.

Looking Closer At 5 SIG P232 HOLSTER Choices

We want to dig a little deeper into 5 options to really get a sense of which of them might be the best choice for the SIG P232 holster. Some key considerations will include price, construction quality, how well the gun fits in and how comfortable it will be to wear.

Itac Defense Roto Retention Paddle

Click on image to go to Amazon

This paddle product is made from high-density plastic that has been specifically molded to be a SIG P232 holster. It has a retention mechanism that clips the weapon securely in place when holstered. To draw your weapon, you simply press the quick release button that is positioned to allow your trigger finger right over the trigger area.

You can adjust the holster using a simple Allen key. Unfortunately this holster is only available in right-hand configuration, so if you are a lefty this is not the SIG P232 holster for you. A nice extra about this one (which you don't usually find in the molded options) is the magazine pouch for an extra magazine.

Gould & Goodrich B890-232 Concealment Inside Trouser

Click on image to go to Amazon

This is a straight-forward leather IWB. It does not have a thumb-break retention strap though, which might be something that some folks won't like. However as it is a IWB and the leather should provide a snug fit for your weapon, it should not be an issue. For a sturdy carry, you should use a belt through the belt loops and the clip clipped to your pants.

As with most (if not all) leather, you will need to break it in at first to get a comfortable fit for your gun. You can check out our guide on breaking in a leather type here.

DESANTIS N38 The Nemesis Pocket

Click on image to go to Amazon

If you want to carry in your pocket, then the pocket product from DeSantis is an excellent option. There is not much to a pocket type, it is simply a choice that you can keep your gun in your pocket with. However the DeSantis pocket is a little different in that it has a very viscous material that makes it stick to your pocket more. This helps to ensure that your gun is not sliding around inside your pocket or bag!

As it is not a carry on the body type, it is an ambidextrous design that is suited to both left-handed and right-handed people.

Galco Scout Clip On Inside Pant

Click on image to go to Amazon

This product from Gaclo Gunleather is one of the more expensive options on our list of SIG P232 holster options. Is it worth the extra money that you will have to pay?

It is definitely a quality selection, which is made from leather and has double stitching. What is also nice about this one is the smooth inner of that makes for a quick and smooth draw of your weapon. It also means there aren't going to be any nasty scratches on your gun due to hard metal pieces inside. It does not have a retention strap or locking mechanism like some of the options have, however the leathervtype will keep the weapon nice and snug though, so retention should not be a problem. The belt loop fits belts up to 1 1/2 inches wide and also has a Generation II injection-molded nylon J-hook that secures onto the belt for extra stability.

The Scout carries the handgun in a vertical orientation, with no cant or angle, so it can be used strong side, crossdraw, or in front of the hip (appendix carry).

Fobus Ankle T0275

Click on image to go to Amazon

With a weapon like the SIG P232, ankle carry is an option where you want to carry the SIG P232 as a backup or perhaps just want to have that little extra bit of concealment.

This  comes from Fobus, who are known for their high-density plastic molded options which they design for militaries and special forces. This particular choice is also made from molded high-density plastics, while the 3/4 inch ankle strap is made from suede lined Cordura. The ankle strap is of course adjustable so you can adjust the retention to your preference.

What we like about the Fobus, is that it comes with a lifetime warranty. So if it lets you down, send it back and have them fix it!

What we are concerned about this product, is the fact that it does not have a retention strap to keep the weapon securely in place. If you are a civilian that will wear it in just everyday carry, then it might not be a big problem. However, if you are a police officer or in the military, this could be a problem if you plan on moving around heavily with it.

The TOP SIG P232 HOLSTER Option

We now know a bit more about each of the 5 options that we looked at, but let us briefly summarize the holsters to be able to compare them to each other.

The SigTac paddle is specifically designed to fit the SIG P232. It has a retention and quick release system to keep your weapon secure and in place if you are moving around. You can also adjust the cant to your liking. It is maybe a little on the expensive side though.

The Gould & Goodrich is a straigh-forward IWB choice that is well made and comes in at a very affordable price. If you need to draw and case your weapon frequently though, it might not be the ideal SIG P232 holster option as the soft IWB will collapse in on itself when IWB. If you have to contain your weapon regularly, a hard shell choice like the SigTac might be a better option. However for just concealed carry, it is a good value option.

If you want to carry in your pocket, the DeSantis pocket is the way to go. It is a straight-forward choice, but which is made from viscous materials that make it "sticky". The stickiness helps so that your weapon does not slide around inside your pocket when you are carrying.

The inside the pants type from Galco Gunleather is a nice quality option. It does come at a price though. If we were to go for a IWB, the Gould & Goodrich is a fraction of the price but offers a similar carry option as the Galco.

The Fobus ankle is nice and little if you want to carry concealed on your ankle. It is ok for general civilian wear, but if you have to move around heavily, there is not very good retention to keep the weapon securely in place.

Which SIG P232 holster would we choose?

Choosing which is the best SIG P232 holster really depends on how you want to carry your weapon. If we were to carry our SIG P232 IWB, then we would likely go for the Gould & Goodrich IWB holster. It is a lot more affordable than the Galco option, but still has adequate quality construction to not let you down. The only question for us would be...do we want it in black or brown...

Glock 21

Glock 21 holster

If you want to buy a Glock 21 holster you need to know what how big the gun is and how you want to use it, so that you can determine what types might be appropriate.

Weapon Size and Weight:

The Glock 21 Gen4 has the following measurements:

  • Length: 204 mm / 8.03 in.
  • Barrel Length: 32 mm / 1.26 in.
  • Width: 32.50 mm / 1.27 in
  • Height: 139 mm / 5.47 in.
  • Weight: 1085 g / 38.30 oz. (loaded)

It is clear that the Glock 21 can be classed as a larger sized handgun. Thus Outside the Waistband (OWB) will be more readily available for this weapon than concealed carry types. However, in our list below we do discuss one or two that are designed for concealed carry.

5 GLOCK 21 HOLSTER OPTIONS - A Detailed Look

We have taken a detailed look at 5 options that we have identified for the Glock 21. We investigate how comfortable each one is on your body, how affordable it is and how well it fits the Glock 21.

Safariland Glock 20, 21 6378 ALS Concealment Paddle  (STX Black Finish)

Click on image to go to Amazon

If you are looking for a product that is specifically designed to fit your Glock 21 and that also has a retention system to keep your weapon securely in place, then this option from Safariland will be a very good choice for you to consider. The fact that it is made from sturdy molded high-density plastics ensures that it is smooth and easy to holster your weapon again once you have drawn it (sometimes softer products tend to collapse in a little bit when the gun is out, making it a more cumbersome to contain your weapon).

It uses the Safariland ALS (Automatic Locking System) to lock the weapon in place while holstered. Once you deactivate the ALS, it is a straight draw. The ALS system allows you to move around with your weapon a lot more without having to worry about your gun popping out. The carry is also really comfortable due to the paddle and the fact that it rides really close to the body. The comfort combined with the secure ALS system makes this selection an ideal option for those folks who needs to carry their weapon in daily life for extended periods. You can also adjust the screw to ensure you get the perfect fit for your Glock 21.

Something that we really appreciate about this choice is the suede lining inside it. We hate it when your gun gets scratches from little hard pieces of metal inside. The suede lining helps keep your gun from getting those ugly scratches!

Gould & Goodrich 803-G20 Gold Line Three Slot Pancake

Click on image to go to Amazon

We really like good looking and well made leather types here at Smoking Barrel, and this holster from Gould & Goodrich certainly is like that! It is made from thick genuine leather with double stitching, which means if you look after this it can last you for years. Over time the leather will also mold to your body, making it a very comfortable carry. Of course you can also decide on the cant you want thanks to the belt loop options that provide for a straight carry option or a slight forward cant carry option.

As with all leather types, you will need to break it in before it will fit your Glock 21 smoothly.

This is a little more expensive than some of the other Glock 21 holster options we have on here, but for the money you pay you get a quality product that will last you a long time if you look after it. It also provides decent concealability if you want to carry concealed.

BlackHawk Serpa Sporster Belt Holster

Click on image to go to Amazon

If you are looking for a really safe option, this one from BlackHawk is a good choice. It has the SERPA Auto Lock system which locks your weapon securely into place. What is nice about this system is that it makes a clear click sound when you contain your weapon so that you know it is locked and secure.

Drawing your weapon is also pretty straight-forward due to the quick release tab that makes sure you can get your G21 out nice and smoothly. It also makes for a close carry to your body, so your weapon does not flop around if you are moving around/runnning. Not only that, but you can also adjust the cant for a forward, vertical or rearward draw angle depending on your preference.

Like you would expect from high-density plastic type, this product is molded to fit the Glock 21. It also has a retention screw so that you can adjust the fit to your G21.

This option is available in both left and right hand versions.

Galco KT228B Kingtuk Inside the Waistband Gun

Click on image to go to Amazon

If you are in the market for a Inside Waistband (IWB) type, then this choice from Galco will be a contender. The backing plat, which is made from leather, helps to make this a really comfortable selection that can be worn for extended periods. The product itself is made from rigid Kydex, which ensures quick and easy draws. The fact that it is a rigid product also makes it much easier to contain your weapon as it is less likely to collapse in.

Adjusting the way you want to carry it is pretty easy thanks to the removable belt metal clips that can be moved up or down in the corresponding holes in the leather, enabling the user to set the carry height and angle.

If you want a concealed carry option that you can wear for extended periods of time, you should look close at this Glock 21 holster option.

Fobus Tactical Speed Paddle

Click on image to go to Amazon

If you have tactical carry requirements, then this option from Fobus will be a solid option for you to consider. It is designed to allow for additional tactical features such as lasers and lights mounted to your weapon. Besides that, it also comes with a lifetime warranty!

It does not have the fancy locking systems like the Safariland or the BlackHawk options, but it does have a muzzle stud and thumb break to keep the weapon secured in place. It was designed with the thumb break strap over the trigger guard in such a way as to present a straight and quick draw when needed. However a number of users complained that the draw feels unnatural and even a little difficult.

Another downside though, is that it is only available in right hand version. So if you are a lefty, this is not the Glock 21 holster for you. What we also do not like is that a lot of users mentioned their weapons getting marks on it due to metal buttons used in it. You can of course remedy this yourself if you wanted...but really we want an option that has that sorted out already.

Picking The Right GLOCK 21 HOLSTER

Let's do a quick recap of each one product to see how well they compare to each other, and which one might be the ultimate choice for your Glock 21!

The Safariland product is a solid option for folks that have to carry their weapon on a daily basis and want to be sure that the weapon will be securely kept in place. It is made from injected molded high-density plastics and has a retention screw that you can adjust, which makes for a carry option that fits the Glock 21 like a glove. It is not the cheapest one, but definitely not the most expensive option either.

The Gould & Goodrich is a top quality leather product that is a good option for folks that might want to carry their G21 concealed. Made from thick leather with double stitching, it will last you for years to come if looked after. Comfort is really good due to the canting options and the fact that the leather will mold to your body shape over time. Not a cheap selection, but you get what you pay for.

The BlackHawk allows for a tight carry close to the body while also allowing for adjustment to how you want your product to cant. The SERPA Auto Lock system keeps your weapon securely in place and makes a clear click sound when you case your weapon so that you know it is securely locked in. At the current retail price, this is a bargain option to buy!

If you want to carry concealed for extended periods, the Galco KingTuk IWB is quite possibly the best Glock 21 holster option for you. The leather back plate ensures comfort, while the Kydex ensures quick and smooth holstering of your weapon. It is one of the more expensive selections on our list of Glock 21 holster options though, so probably not a good choice if you just want something for occasional carry.

The Fobus paddle is a good choice if your are specifically looking for a product that can take a tactical flashlight or laser mounted to your weapon. However its draw is not great and due to metal buttons it leaves marks on the slide. For that reason we would rather consider some of the other Glock 21 holster options if we do not have to get one product that can take a mounted light or laser.

Which Glock 21 holster would we choose?

The selections discussed above are excellent Glock 21 holster options, and ultimately your own requirements will determine which one is the best Glock 21 holster option for you. For us, if we had to buy Glock 21 holster right now, we would choose the Glaco KingTuk IWB holster. The fact that it is super comfortable and you can carry for extended periods of time is what tipped the scales for us.

Walther PPS Holster – 5 Holsters To Fit Your Walther PPS

Walther PPS

walther pps holster

When shopping for a Walther PPS holster, you need to be sure that the one you are buying will actually fit your gun. Not only that, but you need to be mindful of how you plan to carry your gun (e.g. concealed, over-the-waistband, etc.)

Weapon Size and Weight:

The Walther PPS has the following measurements:

  • Weight: 560 g (19.8 oz)
  • Length: 160.5 mm (6.32 in)
  • Barrel length: 81 mm (3.2 in)

When you take into consideration the measurements listed above, you can see that the Walther PPS is a small sized gun. A gun of this size is typically well suited for concealed carry, which means your options are quite wide.

OUR TOP FIVE Walther PPS HOLSTER PICKS

In the table at the top of this page we listed 10 great Walther PPS holster options for the PPS, but below we take a closer look at 5 of our favorites for the PPS. Specifically, we look at how well made they are, how comfortable they are to wear and how well they fit the Walther PPS.

Fobus PPS Right-Handed

Click on image to go to Amazon

If you want a "tacti-cool" product that was specifically designed for military and law-enforcement in mind, then the Fobus is an option you can look at. This is a OWB (over the waistband) type that is made from injection molded high density plastics.

Because it is made from plastics rather than leather, cleaning and maintaining it is a breeze. To clean it you just wipe it off with a wet cloth and maybe some soap!

Comfort for this Walther PPS holster is good thanks to the paddle that is included with this product. Paddles allow it to sit comfortably on your body for long periods of carry. If you need to carry concealed, this OWB might not be the best option for you (unless you wear baggy clothing over it of course).

A typical design feature of the Fobus is the retention screw that it has, which allows you to adjust the gun retention to your liking. As soon as you get the product, you should adjust the screw to your liking as it comes from the factory with the screw usually very tight already.

This one is specifically molded for the PPS, so fit for the gun is excellent.

OUTBAGS LOB2S-PPS Brown Genuine Leather IWB Conceal Carry Gun

Click on image to go to Amazon

While the Fobus above is the "tacti-cool" option, this product from Outbags is the traditional leather option. It is hand crafted and made in the USA! It is made from quality leather that is cured and hardened to make sure it keeps it shape well (if a leather type is made from soft leather, it will collapse in and make it harder to contain your gun). What we like about this particular leather option is that it has a clear coating on it to keep it looking good.

If you want to carry concealed, this inside-the-waistband (IWB) is a good option to look at. The leather should make for a comfortable carry experience.

From a quality perspective, this is a really well made choice that should last you a long time if you look after it. When you get it, you will probably have to break it in a bit to make sure your gun fits perfectly and to your liking.

Some folks have complained a little bit that the steel clip that you would use to clip it to your belt is very stiff. The stiff clip makes it a little hard to put it on or take it off.

Desantis Thumb Break Scabbard

Click on image to go to Amazon

We really like leather types here at Smoking Barrel USA, and this is the kind that we especially like! This is from from Desantis, who is one of the better known brands when it comes to carriers.

The is made from beautiful leather and has double stitching. This makes for an extremely well made product that will not let you down. As with most leather types, you will probably have to break it in when you get it, to make sure your gun fits in to your liking.

This Walther PPS has been designed for easy and quick draw. Draw is quick and easy thanks to it riding high on your hip. The thumb-break keeps it secure, while still not being too stiff to hamper your draw speed.

Fit and retention is very good for this one due to the molding. This is another solid option if you want a product for concealed carry.

You can order it either in black leather or tan leather. It also comes in either left-hand or right-hand configurations.

If you want a really well made product that will be comfortable to carry and look really good, this might just be the best Walther PPS holster option for you!

SHTF GEAR Walther PPS IWB Hybrid with Adjustable Retention and Comfort Curve

Click on image to go to Amazon

Another "tacti-cool" option on our list is the SHTF Gear. It is made to specifically fit the Walther PPS and is constructed using a mix of high quality leather and Kydex.

Since it was made specifically for the PPS, fit for the Walther PPS is excellent. Comfort is also excellent due to its paddle design. It curves to your body to make for a very snug fit. The snug fit to your body makes concealment good, as the gun is kept close to your body.

Similar to the Fobus we mentioned earlier, you can adjust the retention to your liking. Unlike the Fobus, you can adjust the cant though. The overall quality of the construction is extremely good, with many folks praising this choice for how well made it is.

DeSantis Glock 26/27 PPS/PK380 Sof-Tuck

Click on image to go to Amazon

Different to the other Walther PPS carry options that we have listed above, this was not specifically designed and molded to fit the Walther PPS. That is because this is a pocket type made from durable and viscous Nylon.

The viscosity (stickiness) allows not to slip out of your pocket accidentally. The inside is made from a smooth and soft cloth, so you do not have to worry about your gun getting unwanted scratches on it.

Concealability is really good. It has padding inside to ensure that it does not give off a print of a gun inside your pocket.

This product is ambidextrous, so you do not need to worry whether it is designed for left-hand users or right-hand users only.

How Do The Walther PPS HOLSTER CHOICEs Compare?

Now that we looked in detail at the five Walther PPS holster options above, we can start comparing them to each other to see which one might be the right option for our needs. Remember though, that everyone has different needs. So the product that we choose might not necessarily be the best one for you.

The Fobus Standard is the fist of our "tacti-cool" Walther PPS holster option. It is a tough choice that was made for the world's military and law-enforcement forces. It is made from Kydex, which makes it easy to maintain, and is molded to specifically be the Walther PPS holster. If you adjust the retention screw to your liking, draw is quick and easy. The paddle that is included allows for a very comfortable carry.

The Outbags leather type is a nice little leather product that will serve you well if you look after it. It comes at a good price while still offering good quality. This is a good option to look at if you want a concealed carry option for a good price.

The Desantis Thumb Break Scabbard  is good looking and well leather made. With its double stitching, this should hold up really well. It is very comfortable to wear and allows for a quick draw thanks to its design. This is another good concealed carry option that offers good value for money.

The SHTF GEAR IWB hybrid is our second "tacti-cool" option. It is made from Kydex and high quality leather. It is probably the most comfortable on our list, thanks to the paddle design which keeps the gun snug against your body. You can adjust the cant and retention, making it excellent for ease of draw.

The DeSantis pocket is no-fuss option that is suited for both left-hand users and right-hand users. It is made from viscous Nylon that will not easily move around your pocket or even fall out. It has padding to reduce gun print, making it good for concealed carry.

Which Walther PPS holster would we choose?

If we had to go out and buy a Walther PPS holster, we would want something that is designed for concealed carry and will also be really comfortable. There are a couple products like that on our list, namely the Outbags and the SHTF GEAR IWB hybrid products.

If we had to choose between the two, we would choose the SHTF GEAR IWB hybrid holster as it will allow for concealed and comfortable carry for extended periods of time. Sure, it cost more than twice what the Outbags product goes for, but we are willing to invest a bit more in an option that will comfortable while providing good carry.

Smith & Wesson Bodyguard 380

bodyguard 380 holster

When choosing a Bodyguard 380 holster, there are a few key considerations you need to keep in mind in order to choose the right one.

Weapon Size and Weight:

The Bodyguard 380 has the following measurements:

  • Weight: 11.85 oz (336 g)
  • Length: 5.25 in (13.3 cm)
  • Barrel length: 2.75 in (7.0 cm)

From the above dimensions it is clear that the Bodyguard 380 can be classed as a small sized handgun. Being a small handgun, most types owill be suited for carrying this handgun, but as the handgun is specifically designed for concealed carry and to serve as a possible back-up weapon, a lot of pocket, IWB and ankle types will be available for this handgun.

OUR REVIEW OF 5 OPTIONS FOR THE BODYGUARD 380

Below we look at 5 selections that are available on Amazon. We look at the materials that they are made from, the comfort of how it is worn, how it fits the Bodyguard 380, and how easy it is to draw your weapon.

Desantis Insider 380 Bodyguard

Click on image to go to Amazon

This is a straight forward inside the pants made from leather. It has a clip so you are able to clip it to your pants/belt. The leather is not molded, so it is not one of those products that is designed to fit your weapon exactly.

The leather is soft though, so you should not have any problems in terms of fit. As there is no specific print, it really helps with concealed carry as it does not imprint a gun shape if you were carrying it under soft/tight clothing. Of course, as it is leather there will be a bit of an initial breaking in period when the product is still new.

The really big plus is the price. At the price that it is retailing for at the moment, you will struggle to find one of a similar price at a similar quality. This is a great choice if you want a simple IWB type that is made well and comes at a really good price.

OUTBAGS LOB4S-BG Brown Genuine Leather IWB Conceal Carry Gun

Click on image to go to Amazon

Another leather option on our list, this one is hand crafted in the USA. The leather is cured and hardened to make sure it keeps its shape. This makes it easy to reholster your weapon (as the product won’t collapse in on itself). It also has a protective clear coating to keep your product looking good and clean.

This choice is specifically designed to be IWB, so if you are looking to carry concealed, this is a good option for your needs. If you want a OWB carry, then this is not the one for you.

This is a really nice quality option for a good price. The only criticism we have is that its clip tends to be really stiff, which results in it being really difficult to get the it  loose from your pants when you want to take it off. This can be a bit awkward if you are in public and need to quickly remove it for whatever reason. It can of course be remedied with a bit of DIY if you really want to.

The product is available in left-hand and right-hand options.

Desantis N38 The Nemesis Pocket

Click on image to go to Amazon

As the Bodyguard 380 is meant to be a concealed carry type of weapon, it makes sense that some folks will want to have a pocket type for the Bodyguard 380. DeSantis makes this pocket kind that is made from a viscous Nylon, which makes it very sticky (the manufacturer compares it to being sticky like fly paper). This stickiness is of course to make sure to not moving around in your pocket. The inside is made from a slick pack cloth for a low friction draw. It is padded to ensure a low gun print.

Due to the shape, it is ambidextrous. So you do not need to buy one that is specifically right-handed or left-handed.

Outbags OB-31SC Nylon OWB Belt Gun Holster with Mag Pouch

Click on image to go to Amazon

This product is made from 600 Denier Nylon and comes in right and left hand versions. It boasts an extra magazine pouch, a fully adjustable thumb break, a steel belt clip to mount onto either a waistband or belt, and a belt loop which allows a more permanent mount to a belt. As with all Outbags types, this product features a webbed spin which bends into the individual shape of your body.

As an over-the-waist-band kind, naturally this Bodyguard 380 holster is not as concealable as others. But even for an OWB, this is bulky. We found that that this was bulkier than most other OWBs. The clip is tough, however, and we found it simply would not budge off a belt. Fit for the Bodyguard 380 is perfect and at this price point, you won’t find a better choice. But this is definitely not designed for concealed carry. This would be the ideal one if you generally don’t carry firearms every day, and need a good option whilst at the range.

Fobus S&W Bodyguard 380 holster

Click on image to go to Amazon

This is an over-the-waist-band, mid-priced and is made from injection molding Kydex, something that Fobus is renowned for. The material used means that these carriers are robust, whilst also not needing any of the maintenance that leather types require, such as the need to oil, allowing it to breath, or breaking it in – something which has made it a favourite with different military and special security forces around the world (Fobus designed their range of products with this in mind). This Bodyguard 380 holster has been designed for right handed shooters, and it attaches to a belt via the included paddle.

We loved how light this choice was, and it holds the Bodyguard 380 very close to the body. Naturally, as an OWB, you do need to think about using a jacket or a long sweater to cover it, as well as the need to wear a belt. These selections come with a tension screw so you can adjust the tension until you get the right balance between pistol retention and smooth draw. We found the tension screw to be very sensitive, with just a quarter spin making a noticeable difference.

Fit for the Bodyguard 380 is perfect. We can’t really fault this option, except with the fact that most people buy the small Bodyguard 380 because of its size and the ability for it to fit into pockets, or concealed almost entirely by an IWB. As this Bodyguard 380 holster is an OWB, there are constraints as to what clothing you wear, and of course, you have to wear a belt.

OUR TOP CHOICE

There are really some great options available for the Bodyguard 380. So which holster would we choose if we were looking Bodyguard 380 holster? Let’s recap the top options available:

The DeSantis IWB is a nice little IWB leather that comes in at a really good price. It is a pretty straight forward option that is an ideal option for concealed carry.

The Outbags leather is another good quality leather-made product at a decent price. It is specifically designed for IWB carry only, so if you want something that can also be carried OWB or SOB, then this option will not satisfy your needs. However if you are looking for an IWB specifically, it will be a tough choice between this Outbags and the DeSantis IWB leather.

The DeSantis pocket is a simple little option made from a viscous Nylon to make sure it stays put in your pocket. If you want to carry your Bodyguard 380 in your pocket, then this is the Bodyguard 380 holster option that will fit your needs.

The Outbags OB-31SC Nylon OWB Belt Gun is a budget priced Bodyguard 380 holster made from 600 Denier Nylon, and provides a good fit for the Bodyguard 380. It is however very bulky and simply not good for concealment. Great for out on the range or anywhere you don’t want to hide your pistol.

The Fobus Standard is made from Kydex and is extremely robust, having been made with the world’s military services and special forces in mind. This is great fit for the Bodyguard 380. Draw is also very smooth, once you have adjusted the tension screw to your liking. It is quite concealable, but as an OWB, there are limitations as to what you can wear and you definitely need to wear a belt as this attaches via a paddle which needs to be attached to a belt.

So, which one would we choose?

If we were in the market for a Bodyguard 380 holster, it would probably be a toss up between the DeSantis Insider and the Outbags brown leather products. Both are made from leather, are well constructed, allow for good concealable carry and are reasonably priced.

However if we had to choose just one, it would be the Outbags holster. The winning factors for us is the fact that the Outbags product is treated and cured to make sure it keeps its shape while also staying clean and looking good.

Top Ruger LCP 380 Holster Choices

Ruger LCP 380

Ruger LCP ankle holster

When choosing a carry option for your LCP 380, there are a few key considerations you need to keep in mind in order to choose the right one. Firearms can be different when it comes to functionality, weight and size.

Weapon Size and Weight:

The Ruger LCP 380 has the following measurements:

  • Weight: 9.4 oz (270 g)
  • Length: 5.16 in (131 mm)
  • Barrel length: 2.75 in (70 mm)
  • Width: .82 in (21 mm)
  • Height: 3.6 in (91 mm)

From the above dimensions it is clear that the LCP 380 can be classed as a small sized handgun. Being a small handgun, most types of carriers will be suited for carrying this handgun, but as the handgun is specifically designed for concealed carry and to serve as a possible back-up weapon, a lot of pocket, IWB and ankle types will be available for this handgun.

OUR REVIEW OF 5 OPTIONS FOR THE RUGER LCP 380

Below we look at 5 options that are available on Amazon. We look at the materials, the comfort of how it is worn, how it fits the Ruger LCP 380, and how easy it is to draw your weapon from each one.

DTOM Combination POCKET/IWB for Keltec P32 P3AT, Taurus 738 TCP 380, Ruger LCP 380

Click on image to go to Amazon

This mid-priced choice has the unique selling point of being able to convert from an in-the-waist-band holder to a pocket mode, making it extremely versatile with different items of clothing. It is made from tough Armadillo nylon on the outside with smooth nylon cloth inside that helps you achieve a smooth and fast draw. The core is also foam padded, which helps break up the outline of your pistol – ideal when using it in a pocket mode.

We loved how this fit the LCP 380 like a glove, but not so tight that draw was hampered. The outer nylon covers the trigger guard very well. We found it very easy to convert it from an IWB to a pocket type. Draw was fast and smooth because of the very smooth nylon lining. As a pocket kind, we loved how it has an extended curved portion which hooks onto the inside of your pocket – this stops it sliding out from the pocket along with your pistol when drawing – a real problem with some other pocket options.

This one was very comfortable too, even when sat in a car wearing a seatbelt. And the foam padding really does help break up the shape of the pistol. The only fault we can find is that the removal metal clip holds it a little too low on the waistband for our liking. Yes, a carrier riding low does aid concealability, but it also means that it can be difficult to get a solid grip of your pistol. However, this still remains one of our favourite Ruger LCP 380 holster options.

This Ruger LCP 380 holster has been designed for right handed shooters, and it attaches to a belt via the included paddle.

Fit for the Ruger LCP 380 is perfect. We can’t really fault this product, except with the fact that most people buy the small LCP 380 because of its size and the ability for it to fit into pockets, or concealed almost entirely by an IWB type. As this Ruger LCP 380 holster is an OWB selection, there are constraints as to what clothing you wear, and of course, you have to wear a belt.

This is one of our budget priced choices on our list. It is made from 600 Denier Nylon and comes in right and left hand versions. It boasts an extra magazine pouch, a fully adjustable thumb break, a steel belt clip to mount onto either a waistband or belt, and a belt loop which allows a more permanent mount to a belt. As with all Outbags types, this features a webbed spin which bends into the individual shape of your body.

As an over-the-waist-band holster, naturally this is not as concealable as others. But even for an OWB type, this is bulky. We found that that this was bulkier than most other OWBs (such as the Fobus above). The clip is tough, however, and we found it simply would not budge off a belt. Fit for the Ruger LCP 380 is perfect and at this price point, you won’t find a better choice. But this is definitely not designed for concealed carry. This would be the ideal selection if you generally don’t carry firearms every day, and need a good one whilst at the range.

Ruger LCP Pocket Holster

Click on image to go to Amazon

This is our cheapest option on our list and is made from Nylon. The exterior has a rubberized strips which are designed to keep it in your pocket when you draw, instead of it coming out with your LCP 380. It is also lined inside to protect the finish of your pistol. This LCP 380 holster is also really good at breaking up the profile of your pistol, so it looks like you are carrying a wallet in your pocket.

For such a cheap Ruger LCP 380 holster option, we were really impressed at the workmanship. It’s very well made and the addition of rubberized strips on the exterior really does anchor it into your pocket, stopping it from coming out even when you bend or sit – a real problem with most other pocket options. Draw is smooth but takes practice, which is expected of most products, especially pocket types (you need to look at how you position your pistol). We did find it a little too snug for the Ruger LCP 380, but after a break in period, it fit perfectly.

Desantis Pocket Shot LCP 380 with Crimson Trace LG-431 Laserguard, Black

Click on image to go to Amazon

This is our most expensive option on our list, but this is to be expected when you consider it is made of black leather and carries the Desantis name. As with all leather products, you need to allow for a break-in period, but after this, fit for the LCP 380 is perfect. The workmanship and quality is second to none, as expected for Desantis. We simply could not fault this Ruger LCP 380 pocket option for concealability. It breaks up the outline of the Ruger LCP 380 really well. Of course, it will show through most pockets, but it genuinely looks like a wallet.

The leather naturally offers traction within your pocket too, so no problems with the carrier coming out with your pistol when drawing. Naturally, draw is hampered at first with a new and overly tight leather type, but once you have allowed time to break in it, draw is smooth, although, as with all pocket products, the position of your pocket and positioning of your pistol needs consideration. But all-in-all, this is a beautiful Ruger LCP 380 holster that will last the test of time.

OUR TOP RUGER LCP 380 HOLSTER CHOICE

There are really some great options available today for the LCP 380. So which one would we choose if we were looking for a product to fit a LCP 380? Let’s recap the top options available:

The DTOM Combination POCKET/IWB  is the ultimate in versatility, as it easily converts from an IWB  to a pocket type. It’s made from Armadillo Nylon with a unique curved portion that hooks it into your to stop the container from slipping out pocket (when using in a pocket mode, of course). The Nylon lining is very smooth which makes draw very smooth. This is an extremely comfortable Ruger LCP 380, weather worn IWB or in a pocket, and the foam padding completely breaks up the outline of your pistol. A fantastic Ruger LCP 380 holster option.

The Fobus Standard is made from Kydex and is extremely robust, having been made with the world’s military services and special forces in mind. This is great fit for the Ruger LCP 380. Draw is also very smooth, once you have adjusted the tension screw to your liking. It is quite concealable, but as an OWB type, there are limitations as to what you can wear and you definitely need to wear a belt as this Ruger LCP 380 holster attaches via a paddle which needs to be attached to a belt.

The Outbags OB-31SC Nylon OWB Belt Gun is a budget priced Ruger LCP 380 holster made from 600 Denier Nylon, and provides a good fit for the Ruger. It is however very bulky and simply not good for concealment. A great Ruger LCP 380 holster for out on the range or anywhere you don’t want to hide your pistol.

The Ruger LCP Pocket is the cheapest Ruger LCP 380 holster on our list and is made from Nylon. And yet, we loved the workmanship and attention to detail, such as the rubberized strips on the exterior that really anchor it into your pocket to stop it from slipping. It also really helps to break up the profile of your pistol, making it look like you are carrying a wallet.

The Desantis Pocket Shot is the most expensive one here and you can see exactly what you are paying for; premium leather and excellent workmanship that will last many years. You do need to allow a break-in period before you can achieve a smooth draw, but if you are buying a leather type, you will expect this. It is very comfortable to wear and will break up the profile of your pistol, so it looks like you are carrying a wallet.

Which one would we buy?

When it comes to comfort, all of the above options are great to wear. However, for ease of draw, pocket options can be cumbersome, and you will need to look at where your pocket is positioned (every single time you change clothes).

On the other hand, most people buy the Ruger LCP 380 for concealed carry, so OWBs that generally have great ease of draw, are not the best option. For these reasons, our number one choice has to be the DTOM Combination POCKET/IWB Holster, with its ability to convert from IWB carry to pocket carry at will.

We loved how concealable this product was, in either IWB or pocket mode, and we loved how the ‘pocket mode’ was not just an afterthought, but the manufacturers added the unique curved portion to hook it into your pocket. The best option for both concealed carry and ease of draw.

The Ultimate Belly Band Holster Guide

Below we look at 5 belly band carriers that are available on Amazon. We look at the materials that they are made from, the comfort of how it is worn, and how easy it is to draw your weapon from it.

AlphaHolster Belly Gun - Abdominal Band Pistol Carrier

Click on image to go to Amazon

This belly band holster is one of our most budget priced choices on our list and can be used by left or right handed users. Its unique selling point is the breathable, ventilated elastic it is made from. We found the open weave design made this comfortable to wear even in the summer. Most small to medium sized firearms will fit, and there are 2 additional carriers designed to hold extra magazine clips. Your gun is secured with a Velcro tab (the additional magazine clip types also have Velcro tabs). We love how you have a choice of 3 colors; black, white and beige……..another USP, as most other belly band types come in a choice of black or white, or just black. The beige is ideal for creating a ‘skin-like’ color which means, even under light fabrics, the color would not show through.

OK, so now onto the drawbacks. We were really disappointed with how small the additional magazine clip products were. You would be able to fit a small knife, a pen, perhaps a small flashlight, but you would struggle fitting a magazine clip in there. We tried various different magazines of various calibers and we found none would fit. So if it’s important for you to carry an extra mag, this belly band type may not be for you. We also found the sizing to be a little off. You may find you need a size up from what you were expecting, as these belly band are tight! Now that helps with concealability, of course. But wearing a too tight belly band is going to be uncomfortable.

All in all, though, we felt this was a fantastic belly band holster, given its price point. Once we got the right size, it was comfortable, retention of firearm was good (and in most cases did not even need the security of the Velcro tab….. which actually makes for faster draw), and we found we could wear it low on the hips, under the chest, and the lower back with ease, all whilst concealing the fact you are carrying a firearm.

Belly Band holster with 2 Mag Pouches Black

Click on image to go to Amazon

This is the cheapest on our list, and is made from heavy duty elastic. Its unique selling point is, unlike most others that use Velcro, this has an adjustable thumb break or snap that retains your gun. We don’t have any issues with Velcro, but we just prefer the ‘snap’ sound rather than noisy Velcro. It comes with 2 magazine pouches that are roomy enough for most mag clips. It also boasts a hook and loop closure to give you a custom fit. This only comes in black, so cannot be worn under thin, light fabrics.

Drawing your weapon is OK, once you get used to unholstering whilst using the thumb break. We would have loved a quick release mechanism of some sort. We did find that this on is a little on the bulky side, but still can be concealed with a little imagination. The heavy duty elastic will have some rough edges when new. We recommended washing it a couple of times to soften the edges. We also recommend wearing a ‘lining’ material underneath it (such as a light vest with it on top, and then a sweater over that) as the elastic can chafe on skin. I

Ideally the manufacturers would have added a lining, but we suspect this would make this product a lot more expensive. The workmanship is not amazing, and we found the stitching can come undone after lots of use, but at this price point, we would not expect any different. At this bargain price, you would be hard pushed to find a better option.

ActiveProGear Defender Concealment Belly Band Holster

Click on image to go to Amazon

This is the most expensive option on our list, and is made from smooth elastic. This belly band holster is designed for medium to large frame guns and can also accommodate an extra magazine if required. It comes in left and right hand versions and is available in black.

We loved how concealable this is. The elastic is very smooth, and it will hold your firearm extremely close to your body. For maximum concealability, we wore ours low on the waist so the pant line covered our firearm. But this can be worn higher up, or as an arm container, although we found this less concealable. The elastic is comfortable enough to wear on skin, but we found that it will make you perspire a lot. We recommend wearing it over a ‘liner’ item, such as a vest.

Another plus is that this is modular in design. You can add on accessories as you need them. You can buy adjustable Velcro thumb breaks, or add extra magazine carriers anywhere on the waist band. You can create a personalised one which you can adjust each time you wear for different environments. Keep in mind, thought, this does add to the cost. But if you have a number of different guns (larger guns may require a thumb break) and perhaps you expect to wear it in different environments where you need to carry more than one gun or more than one magazine, this belly band holster will give you the flexibility you need, without having to buy more of them.

Draw is smooth, although adding an adjustable thumb break naturally slows down draw a little. It definitely does accommodate bugger guns than most others we tried, but keep in mind that there will be problems with large, muzzled guns, such as the Beretta Storm, where we found the sights get hung up, and large gun also bounce a lot (wear as low down on your hip as you can to stabilise).

We also found that can rub off the coating of larger guns, but this is a likely consequence of a belly band holster that holds guns so close to your body. The other gripe we had is why the manufacturers decided to place the magazine pouch next to the carrier. We would have thought it being placed on the opposite side would have made more sense.

However, this is an excellent option, and one we can see being used with a variety of different guns and magazines. And it is one of the most concealable choices where we can see women being able to conceal with just an elasticated skirt and vest top if needed. It’s a shame it only comes in black. The ultimate in flexibility.

UnderTech UnderCover Original Belly Band

Click on image to go to Amazon

This is one of our mid-priced options. It is ambidextrous, made from heavy duty elastic, and comes in a choice of black and white. It features 2 holsters (one sized for an automatic pistol, the other for a revolver) as well as a 6 inch pocket to carry money, credit cards etc, and a slot for an extra magazine. You can also rotate the band around to suit your particular position carry.

We felt this was concealable, as it pulled our firearms close to our torso, but a little bulkier than some others on our list, so some thought on what you wear to conceal this is needed. We could not recommend using this with large revolver, but it will easily accommodate most small to medium sized revolver, and of course most automatics. It can carry a number of items in one go, with the ability to hold 2 guns, an extra magazine, and miscellaneous items in the 6 inch pouch.

We found this option very generous in size, and we had to opt for a smaller size than we expected, so keep this in mind as a too large option will add bulk to your frame, making it less concealable. We did find, however, wearing this for extended periods made us sweat a lot. We also found the Velcro enclosures a bit fiddly, and if you didn’t align them properly, they dig and poke you. However, this is great for anyone who has the need to carry 2 firearms and a magazine at any one time, as well as having the option of carrying other items in the pouch.

Core Defender Belly Band Concealment

Click on image to go to Amazon

This is another mid-priced choice that is the ultimate for anyone who wants to carry a lot of items at once. It is made from orthopaedic ergonomic elastic, is ambidextrous, and is available in both black and tan. It is designed to fit any automatic pistols, and small to medium framed revolvers.

There are 2 holsters placed on opposite ends to give you a strong side draw and a cross draw. In addition, there are 4 additional pockets at the back designed to carry extra magazines, flashlights……anything you like really! We also loved how it came in a tan choice, as its ideal for creating a ‘skin-like’ color which means, even under light fabrics, the color would not show through.

As with most elasticated options, we found that extended periods of use made us sweat. We also found the elastic to be very thin (which is great for concealability) but also a little rough on our skin. We recommend wearing a ‘liner’ material, such as vest. Also, washing it a handful of times will smoothen the elastic. We also found it a little small and, although advertised as fitting any size pistol, we could only use it with small to medium sized pistols. We can envisage larger pistols wearing a hole into the trigger guard.

OUR TOP BELLY BAND HOLSTER CHOICE

There are really some options available today. So which belly band holster would we choose? Let’s recap the top options available:

The AlphaHolster is budget priced, and yet we were impressed with what it offers. It is the only belly band holster to come in 3 shades (black, white and beige) giving ultimate flexibility with concealability under different clothing. We recommend the beige as that offers an almost skin life coloring which is ideal to be worn under color of clothing. It also boasts ventilated elastic, making it the most breathable options on our list – ideal if you live in warm climates, or you tend to perspire a lot. It has one gun carrier, and draw is fast and smooth, especially as it is snug enough to retain your weapon without the Velcro tabs. If you do choose to use the tabs, you will need to practice drawing to achieve a fast draw. Our major gripe is that the 2 magazine pouches were far too small for any magazine clips. If carrying an extra clip is imperative, this is not the belly band holster for you.

The Belly Band with 2 Mag Pouches is our cheapest one and is only available in black. However, despite the fact it is the cheapest, it does away with noisy Velcro tabs and offers an adjustable thumb break snap – quite unexpected for such a budget option. It can hold one weapon, but also has 2 roomy pouches for extra magazines. However, we did find the elastic the roughest on our skin, as well as the most bulky, which meant concealing involved a little imagination. Fast draw also takes time to perfect with the thumb break snap. For those on a budget, though, this is the best choice you can get at this price point.

The ActiveProGear Defender Concealment is our most expensive choice, and it is easy to see why. It is definitely the most comfortable belly band holster, even next to skin, although it can make you perspire so we still recommend wearing a vest underneath it. It is also the most concealable one, pulling your weapons very close to your torso – we envisage most women can wear this, with just an elasticated skirt and top. It is designed to carry one firearm and one magazine. We did not like the magazine pouch , but as this is a modular design where you can buy add-on extra pouches and containers, this can easily be remedied, although this does add to the price. It is a shame the manufacturers did not think of creating this in other colors, especially beige or tan, as this would make this the ultimate in concealability. But this is the best choice for anyone who likes the idea of a modular design where you can chop and change the number and orientation of pouches at will.

The UnderTech UnderCover Original Belly Band is one of our mid-priced selections and comes in a choice of black or white. It is a little bulky, but still reasonably easy to conceal with some thought. It can carry 2 weapons (one for automatics of all sizes, and the other for small to medium sized revolvers, as well as the ability to carry one magazine, and a pouch for miscellaneous items. The elastic did make us perspire over longer periods however. And the Velcro enclosures were rather fiddly and can dig in if not aligned properly. Still, if you have the need to carry 2 guns at once, and you prefer to carry a large automatic, this is the one for you.

The Core Defender Belly Band Concealment choice is mid-priced and enables you to carry the most number of items in one go (unless of course you add on several pouches to the ActiveProGear Defender at extra cost). You can carry 2 guns and you also have 4 pouches to carry extra magazines and other items. It comes in tan, as well as black, for concealability under light colored clothing. We did find it a little rough on our skin, although this is eased by washing it a few times. We also found the elastic made us perspire. Also, it is worth noting that, although advertised as being able to carry all sized automatics, we found larger automatics far too snug, and we recommend using with only small to medium sized automatics.

Which one would we choose?

It is difficult to pick an outright winner here. The best belly band holster for you is one where you have considered what size of guns you want to carry, how many guns you want to carry, if you need pouches for extra magazines and other items (and how many pouches you would need) and also your clothing preferences (if you tend to wear mainly dark clothing, black options will be fine, but if you wear light colored clothing, you really need to opt for a white or, preferably, a beige or tan).

If the ActiveProGear Defender Concealment Belly Band Holster came in beige or tan, it definitely would have been our outright favourite belly band holster. For concealability and comfort, and for smooth draw, this holster is unbeatable. And the modular design means you can easily create your perfect holster.

We hope the manufacturers decide to make this in other colors. If you do tend to wear light colors, we recommend Core Defender Belly Band Concealment Holster in tan, or if you really have no need to carry an extra magazine, the AlphaHolster Belly Gun Holster in beige is ideal, whilst also being cheaper.

Glock 17

glock 17 holster

When choosing a Glock 17 holster, you need to make sure you pick one that fits your needs. So let's first look at the Glock 17 as a pistol, and think about how it is likely to be used.

Weapon Size and Weight:

The Glock 17 Gen4 has the following measurements:

  • Length: 202 mm / 7.95 in.
  • Barrel Length: 114 mm / 4.48 in.
  • Width: 30.00 mm / 1.18 in.
  • Height: 138 mm / 5.43 in.
  • Weight: 710 g / 25.06 oz.

From the above dimensions, you can see that the Glock 17 can be classed as a medium sized handgun. As such most carrier types should be possible for this handgun. As it is not too big, the Glock 17 will be popular for people wanting to carry concealed. If you want to go the concealed carry route IWB will be good choices. You could probably even go for an ankle option if you wanted to.

Looking At 5 Glock 17 HOLSTER Choices

To be able to really find the best choice for the Glock 17, we need to take a closer look at some of the options to get an idea of how well they fit the Glock, how affordable they are and whether they would be comfortable to wear.

Fobus Standard RH Paddle Price

Click on image to go to Amazon

If you want a low maintenance product that is easy to clean, Fobus picks are a good option for you to consider. This is thanks to the injection molding and high-tech high density plastics that these are made from. However, if you decide to go with a leather option you will need to break it in first and often requires a degree of maintenance over the duration of its lifetime.

This particular selection from Fobus is an Outside-the-Waistaband (OWB), comes with a rubberized paddle and has a steel reinforced rivet attachment system.

As you would expect from a really good OWB carry option, good gun retention is a feature. It gives you a nice "snap" when you carry your weapon, so you can know that it is secured.

If you like one that can be adjusted, then you will like that you can play around with the retention to suit your liking, using the retention screw. So now you can adjust the retention to get a nice balance between a secure "snug" carry and ease of draw. Practical tip - you may want to completely back out the retention screw, then tightening the screw back in to the position best for you.

As you can imagine, drawing your weapon might take some getting used to, due to the retention system. To allow for a nice smooth draw, some folks coat the lining (as well as the trigger guard) with silicone.

Although you can adjust the retention, you cannot adjust the cant, which is around 5 to 10 degrees. Some folks really do not like this about the Fobus selection.

Another popular feature is the paddle, which helps that you do not need to take off your belt to attach or detach it. This is a great design feature if you have to take off and put on it often during the day (example if you have to get in and out of a car often). The paddle also fits nicely over belt loops, which means no frustrations with belt loops messing with the right position. Lastly, the paddle has nice retention tabs to grip your waistband and belt, which will help prevent it from popping out.

If you want to carry concealed, this is probably not the best Glock 17 holster option for you. This is due to the bulkiness and paddle, which will leave a clear print. However if you want a really comfortable option that is not too expensive, and open carry is an option for you, you should really consider this choice.

Safariland ALS Concealment Paddle

Click on image to go to Amazon

This Glock 17 holster is made from injection molded plastic, with a suede lining that protects your gun sights and finish. This is another Glock 17 holster that boasts an automatic locking system which holds your pistol securely. The ALS is deactivated by simply using your thumb when you obtain shooting grip. We felt this had the smoothest draw of all of the carriers that feature some sort of lock to retain a pistol.

It comes with both paddle attachment and belt loop. The paddle is made from the same injection molded plastic, and the belt loop fits belt widths from 1.5 inch to 1.75 inch. Cant is adjustable to 3 positions (neutral, forward and reverse). This is a great fit for the Glock 17, and using the paddle attachment allows it to be sucked into the body tightly, making it quite and concealable, as well as comfortable. As with all OWBs (outside the waistband), you will need a jacket or longline shirt to conceal your weapon effectively.

The only minor gripe with this Glock 17 holster is that it is rather difficult getting it on and off. This does make it very secure on your belt or waistband however – no worries about it falling off, or being tugged off when drawing your weapon.

Gould & Goodrich 890-G17 Concealment Inside Trouser

Click on image to go to Amazon

Gould & Goodrich are well known for their leather products. This selection is designed to be worn IWB, so is ideal for those folks wanting to carry concealed. It has a clip and belt loop so that you can carry it to your preference, it also means you can carry it both clipped to your pants and on your belt for extra sturdiness. The clip is quite stiff though, so you can carry it without a belt if you wanted to.

With the carry option being specifically moulded to fit a Glock 17, the fit is really good and will keep your weapon secure even when you are moving around excessively. There is no retention strap though, which makes for a quick and easy draw...but of course it also means the weapon is not as secure as an option that does have a retention strap.

Overall this is a comfortable and well made choice that is ideal for concealed carry. It is not too expensive (very affordable for a quality leather product in fact) and will give you good value for your money.

OutBags OB-16SC Nylon OWB Belt Gun carry option with Mag Pouch

Click on image to go to Amazon

If you just want an inexpensive no frills product, then this one from Outbags is a good choice. It is made from 600 Denier Nylon, which is durable and sturdy without being too expensive. Of course it does not look as nice and stylish as a leather product or as "tacti-cool" as a high-density plastics pick.

Overall it is very practical, coming in left hand as well as right hand options. It has the usual adjustable thumb break, belt loop and steel belt clip. It also has a magazine pouch so you can carry extra ammo. The steel clip is removable if you want to carry it mounted onto your belt or waistband, via the belt loop. If you want a secure carry, using the belt loop method might be a better option.

This one has been designed to be carried close to your body. The webbed spine helps to shape it to your body. One design flaw might be the valcro, which can be annoying when you move it. Some folks have also complained that the steel clip is not very sturdy at all.

Another design flaw seems to be that the product covers the top inch of the of the pistol, resulting in you not being able to grip it until it has been removed. This can be a serious problem in a self-defence situation where you might need to draw your weapon quickly. However, for a carry option  to keep your weapon in for trips to the shooting range, this is a really good choice as it is sturdy yet inexpensive.

Blackhawk! SERPA Concealment

Click on image to go to Amazon

If you want a serious Glock 17 holster, then you have found it in this BlackHack selection! What makes BlackHawk´s really popular is the unique SERPA Auto Lock Release system. It really helps to keep your weapon secure. It gives you a "click" sound when you contain your weapon, so you know that it is locked in. It also has a good release system to help make drawing your weapon smooth and fast (although you will have probably have to practice a bit to get it right!).

Different from the Fobus choice for which you cannot adjust the cant, the BlackHack 's cant is adjustable. You can adjust it to three positions, namely forward, vertical and backwards.

Another nice feature is the modular design, which allows it to fit other configurations. That makes it very customizable!

This is modern and made from modern carbon fibre materials. If you are looking for a concealed carry option, then this is not the answer for you, as this is Outside-the-Waistband (OWB), which is designed specifically to allow for rapid weapon draw.

Similar to the Fobus, this comes with a paddle and belt loop for comfortable carry. The paddle is great if you have to carry your weapon for long periods of time, as it distributes the weight of the pistol evenly. This helps to reduce strain on your waistband and belt.

This is a really good option to consider if you need to carry your weapon for long periods of time, and plan to carry it OWB.

Which Glock 17 HOLSTER OPTION IS THE BEST?

We have now looked closer at 5 options, but how do they compare to each other?

The Fobus Standard Holster is affordable with some really nice features. It is made from modern injection molding, which results in a sturdy and low maintenance. Thanks to the paddle that it comes with, it is really comfortable to wear. The negatives is that you cannot adjust the cant, and you will need to practice drawing your weapon to make sure you can do it quickly and smoothly.

The Safariland ALS Concealment Paddle  is another Glock 17 holster that is made from injection molding. However it has nice suede lining to protect your weapon from scratches. While you are not able to adjust the cant of the Fobus, you can with this one. It has a good retention system for secure carry, but it still allows for quick and smooth drawing of your weapon. If you want to carry concealed, this is probably the best option of the injection molded options.

The Gould & Goodrich leather looks good and feels good! Ideal for concealed carry and should give you plenty of carrying service. As it is a IWB´s option there is not much in terms of being able to adjust the cant etc (but that is of course we won't expect that from an IWB anyway).

The OutBag Nylon is affordable but sturdy. It does not have the fancy retention systems that others have, but has a basic thumb break to keep your weapon securely in place. Carry is also comfortable due to the webbed spine, however the valcro might be a problem if it moves around. This product is not the best in terms of quick draw though, and the others are probably a lot more comfortable to wear over long periods. This is a good option if you just want to carry your pistol in to the gun range.

The Blackhawk! SERPA Concealment is a carbon fiber Glock 17 holster which has an adjustable cant (3 positions). It is also the most customizable option on our list, so if you want a product that you can configure in many ways to suit, this is ideal. Also, for an OWB, this Glock 17 holster conceals well, but it does ride low.

Which one would we choose?

If we were looking for a concealed carry option, then we would go with the only truly concealable on our list, namely the Gould & Goodrich IWB holster. We like the look and feel of a leather choice, and this is also really well made with a very affordable price.

If we were to go with a OWB type, we would likely go for the Fobus holster. The Fobus, Blackhawk! and Safariland types are somewhat similar, so for us it would come down to price. The Fobus kind comes in at a very affordable price while still offering the modern materials, locking systems and retention qualities that the other types offer.

WHAT IS YOUR OPINION – WHAT IS THE TOP Glock 17 HOLSTER OPTION?

Above we listed only 5 possible options to fit the Glock 17. Of course there are many other holsters that are also great, and would be excellent choices. If you have used another selection for your Glock 17 and thought it was great, let us know about it by commenting in the comments section below.
