SIG P250

The SIG Sauer P250 is a semi-automatic pistol made by J.P. Sauer & Sohn, and SIG Sauer of Exeter, New Hampshire. The SIG Sauer P250 can be chambered in .357 SIG, .40 S&W, .45 ACP, 9×19mm Parabellum, and .380 ACP.

A key feature of the pistol is its modular design. The main module of the P250 is an internal stainless steel frame fire control unit which consist of the integrated fire control group (trigger, hammer and all necessary linkage and springs), ambidextrous slide release (one on each side of the pistol), ejector and four slide rails.

The P250 was designed to be ambidextrous in handling, sporting an ambidextrous slide catch lever and user reversible magazine catch. All other operating controls are designed so they can be operated from either side. The firearm can be field stripped with no tools.

When choosing a SIG P250 holster, there are a few key considerations you need to keep in mind in order to choose the right holster. Firearms can be different when it comes to functionality, weight and size. The SIG P250 itself, comes in 3 different sizes (full, sub-compact, and compact), all with slightly differing sizes and weights.

Weapon Size and Weight:

The SIG P250 Full has the following measurements:

Length: 205 mm (8.1 in)
Barrel Length: 20 mm (4.7 in)
Width: 34 mm (1.3 in)
Height: 140 mm (5.5 in)
Weight: 820 g (28.9 oz)

The SIG P250 Compact has the following measurements:

Length: 183 mm (7.2 in)
Barrel Length: 98 mm (3.9 in)
Width: 34 mm (1.3 in)
Height: 131 mm (5.2 in)
Weight: 720 g (25.4 oz)

The SIG P250 Sub-Compact has the following measurements:

Length: 169 mm (6.7 in)
Barrel Length: 91 mm (3.6 in)
Width: 28 mm (1.1 in)
Height: 120 mm (4.7 in)
Weight: 686 g (24.2 oz)

As you can see, the SIG P250 holster option that you end up choosing will depend on whether you carry the full, compact or sub-compact version of the SIG P250.

Weapon Use

Generally the SIG P250 is used by civilians for self-defence. Because the SIG P250 is so modular, it results in a gun that will not have many form fitting holsters specifically designed for the weapon. The full version of the SIG P250 is probably too large to realistically carry it concealed, so you will likely have to go the usual OWB route. Of course the compact and sub-compact versions will allow you more flexibility in your carry options.

Below we look at 5 SIG P250 holster options that are available on Amazon. We look at the materials that the holsters are made from, the comfort of how it is worn, how it fits the SIG P250 and how easy it is to draw your weapon from the holster.

Here are our top 5 SIG P250 holster options:

SigTac Roto Retention Paddle Holster

This paddle holster from  SigTac is designed to fit any caliber SIG P250 pistol. It is made from black polymer, so it does have a hard shell however users have noted that print through is not too bad when you wear it with a loose t-shirt. Generally though this holster is best for open carry rather than concealed carry.

Overall users are very happy with the good fit that this holster provides for the SIG P250. The holster has a retention system, which is designed to have zero time to desengage. This is achieved by pushing the lever for instant removal of your pistol. You can also adjust the cant to your liking (it is listed to allow for a 360 degrees rotation).

This is a pretty affordable holster that is specifically designed to fit the SIG P250 (for which there generally are not that many holster options!) and is made from sturdy materials to keep your pistol nice and snug. One thing you need to be aware of though, is that at the time of this article being written this holster is only available in a right-handed version.

OUTBAGS LOB8S-P250C Brown Genuine Leather IWB Conceal Carry Gun Holster

This SIG P250 holster options is from Outbags is designed to fit the SIG P250 Compact. Also, the manufacturer notes that this is a IWB holster and is not intended to be worn as outside the pants holster or in the small of your back.

We like that this is a genuine leather holster, which is hand crafted in the USA. The leather is treated to make sure it lasts you a long time and maintain its shape. Leather holsters need a bit more work than the polymer holster options (e.g. when you get a leather holster like this you will need to “break it in” in a bit to get it to fit your weapon perfectly), however we really like leather holsters because they not only look good, but they tend to feel good too. You will likely struggle to get a leather holster of this quality for the price that the Outbags holster is retailing for. Considering what you pay for it, we really think you get value for your money on this one.

As we mentioned, this holster is specifically designed for the SIG P250 Compact as a OWB holster, but users who have bought this holster have all been happy about how it fits their SIG P250 Compacts and how comfortable it carries. It is available in both right-hand and left-hand options.

Safariland Concealment Paddle Holster

This paddle holster from Safariland is designed to fit the SIG P250 Full version, however the SIG P250 Compact will also fit this holster (there will be a little gap at the tip of the barrel end). We do not recommend that you buy this holster for the SIG P250 Sub-Compact though.

It is made from a hard-shell STX materials, so it should fit your weapon exactly while also providing a hard protective cover. The hard-shell STX is designed to withstand general everyday wear and tear such as seat belt abrasion. It also does not absorb water or sweat (so you do not end up with the funky smell after wearing it a while) and is easy to clean with some soap and water. We also like that it has a suede lining to help protect the gun’s sights and finish.

The holster is designated as a paddle holster, however as with most Safariland paddle holsters you can unbolt thee waistband paddle and switch it out with a belt loop attachment (which comes with the holster). Overall this holster has been designed with concealment in mind, so if you are looking to carry your SIG P250 in a concealed fashion, this might be a SIG P250 holster option to consider (but do not expect miracles…it is still an OWB holster).

This model holster from Safariland is a concealment version of the Automatic Locking System (ALS ) series holsters from Safariland. Once the weapon is holstered, it “locks” into place, providing an extra measure of security from standard open top holsters. A simple straight up draw is possible once the ALS is de-activated by the thumb while obtaining a shooting grip. Users of the holsters have been very happy with the smooth and quick draw that they have been getting with this holster.

Good news for southpaws is that this holster is also available in a left-hand configuration.

Sig Sauer P250 Compact Holster with Built-in Magazine Pouch

What is a list of the best SIG P250 holster options without an affordable nylon holster option? This holster from Federal Holsterworks is just that, a straight forward holster made from nylon that comes with a pouch to accommodate an extra magazine. As the title suggests, this is a holster for the SIG P250 Compact version.

We say it is pretty straight forward, but it does have some nice features. For example it has a multi-layer nylon cushion fit to allow the holster to mold itself to your weapon’s shape. The robust outside lining prevents scuffs, moisture and abrasions, while the inside lining is a smooth nylon lining and a closed cell foam moisture barrier. It is sewn using nylon thread and edge-bound with nylon binding tape using double needle stitching to provide about 14 stitches per inch reinforcement.

It is also ambidextrous, so it does not matter if you are left-handed or right-handed. It allows a bit of flexibility in how you decided to carry your holster. You can either make use of the metal clip or the belt loops to attach your holster. Some users have complained that the clip is not that great (it does not support the weight of the gun well and scrapes the belt) and that it is much better to carry it using the belt loops.

It does not have a fancy retention system like some of the polymer SIG P250 holster options on this list, but comes with a reinforced thumb break. The thumb break is positioned across the hammer instead of the grip for a natural feel and a positive draw.

If you want a basic holster for an affordable price, this is a good SIG P250 holster option for you. Do not expect that it will last you a life time though.

OUTBAGS LOB2P-P250SC Brown Genuine Leather Holster

Another leather SIG P250 holster option from Outbags, this holster is an OWB pancake holster designed for the SIG P250 Sub-Compact. While the LOB8S is designed to be worn as a IWB holster, the LOB2P is designed to be worn as a OWB holster. As mentioned with the LOB8S, the Outbags holsters are made from genuine leather in the USA. The leather is treated to make it last longer and also to hold its shape well. As with leather holsters like this, you will need to break in the holster for it to fit your weapon well. This does take a bit of work and effort (which is not necessary on the polymer options) but you do get a good looking holster that feels really nice. Once you have broken the leather in the draw should be smooth and comfortable.

The holster is designed for outside the pants side carry using belt loops. The cant of the holster allows for comfortable all day wear, even when you are sat in a chair or your vehicle. Outbags are currently offering this holster in a right-hand and left-hand version.

There are not a lot of negative comments from users about this holster. Some have complained that it does take a bit of breaking in to get it to fit well, but that should be expected with a leather holster. So if you are looking for a quality OWB holster option at a reasonable price for your SIG P250 SC, then this is a really good option for you.
